Fluss is a sonic playground created by Bram Bos and Berlin-based musician Hainbach that provides a hands-on experience with granular synthesis. It offers a touch interface that encourages live performance, experimentation, and mastery of the granular concept.
With Fluss, you have multiple plugin options: importing your own WAV files (as a standalone or AUv3 Instrument plugin), recording audio (as a Record effect plugin), or live-processing sound (as a Process effect plugin). This versatility allows you to create a wide range of sounds including drones, granular echoes, and moving microtonal audio textures.
The touch interface of Fluss is designed with kinetic sliders that are linked to a physics model, enabling you to flick and throw them around. By minimizing friction, these sliders offer endless bouncing motion, serving as an innovative alternative to traditional LFOs and modulation. This makes Fluss an excellent choice for music production using touchscreens.
One of the standout features of Fluss is the Shimmer Feedback effect. This effect takes processed audio and feeds it back into the grain engine, creating an infinite loop of pitch-shifting spaciousness. It can transform even the simplest sounds into massive, woolly mammoths.
